Software:Article Title: Exploring the Nursing Universal Retention and Success Model for Student Success in a School of Nursing Article Snippet: A diversified workforce of health care professionals who reflect the communities and populations served is essential for improving the health in minority communities and thereby reducing health inequalities.. Minority nurses possess the cultural insight that leads to a better understanding of key health issues of the communities in which they work, and those with similar socioeconomic backgrounds have the shared life experiences that provide them with the knowledge and skills to work effectively with patients who have similar experiences.1,2 Researchers support that one solution to addressing health inequalities in the United States is to ensure that the workforce is racially/ethnically representative of the population being served.1,3 The term “racial and ethnic minority groups” includes people of color with a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences.4 Nurses from diverse backgrounds play an important role in addressing and understanding the health inequalities within communities of color.. Statistics show that most economically disadvantaged students tend to fall in a minority category.5-7 Therefore, nursing schools have an obligation to recruit and ensure the success of minority and disadvantaged nursing students who may be more at risk of not completing the program. |
